Starting
in January 2010 CHILDRENS GERMAN LANGUAGE CLUB --- LEARNING GERMAN
IS FUN! INTRODUCTION: The German-speaking children's groups
in Bournemouth are the inspiration for planning a German speaking Saturday school
for children aged 5-8 years. We aim to follow the principles of the Society
for German Saturday Schools - www.germansaturdayschools.co.uk - which will provide
interested parents with relevant information . We plan to have two classes
and wish to offer a fun and stimulating environment in which children enjoy learning
about German language and culture. Our target group are parents interested
in the German language and culture. Knowledge of the German language is not required
but we expect parents to support their child/ren as is possible. By providing
a German Saturday School we aim to have a venue where children can learn about
the German language and culture for years to come. SCHOOL TERM: Classes
will only be held in term time. School times: Saturday mornings.
COST: The
cost per term and first child will be £38.00 payable in advance. A reduction
for further children will be available.
VENUE: We will be renting
the church hall at West Howe Baptist Church in Holloway Avenue, Bournemouth. Free
parking as well as a playing field outside are available. GROUP STRUCTURE: We
aim to employ one teacher/teaching assistant for approximately every 5 children.
The assistant teachers have a supporting role. STAFFING: The teachers
are German speakers and will have relevant qualifications/experience. They
will be employed as teachers with a relevant salary. They will also be CRB
checked and have taken part in a first aid course. Other supporting staff will
be the parents of children. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Learning the German
language and about the culture in a fun and enjoyable setting will be the main
aim. Each child will be supported individually to widen their vocabulary, improve
grammar and have a better understanding and articulation of German. Each child
will develop differently in their command of the language and we aim to give support
where and as needed. We will also use spoken English in order to support children
with no or little knowledge of German. We would like to encourage the interactions
and friendships among the children so they can support each other as members of
a group. Structured learning and play will be offered as well as songs, action
rhymes, childrens' books and musical instruments with lots of movement! Children
are on a journey of discovery and we want to encourage their interest, excitement
and motivation-play, fun and enjoyment will be of utmost importance in their quest
to find out about another language and culture! The staff aims to be flexible
and sensitive to the needs of the children. TEACHING AIDS: We are still
researching various books and teaching aids. PARENT INVOLVEMENT: We encourage
feedback from parents and their involvement in the organisation of the school. We
will pass relevant information on as and when necessary. Parents' evening or
individual meetings with the teacher will be offered. We welcome new ideas,
constructive criticism, and suggestions-please let us know what you think! FUNDRAISING:
We plan to raise funds for the Saturday school and your help and ideas are
much appreciated! ENROLMENT: Please contact Cassandra Scholz (coordinator/parent)
for further information or if you would like to enrol your child/ren in the German
Saturday school!
